Interns at FUI take an Intro to Urban Ministry class. Twice a week they are challenged with a variety of topics that they are encountering while they are in Fresno. This week the class was about Jesus' view of poverty. As we interacted creatively, here is a student's response:
The Lord is my gardener. in His city He lays the pathstones and prunes back untamed wilderness. He clears away the kindling underbrush. The Lord weaves flowering vine through chainlink. He pulls the sidewalk crack weeds. In the city of the Lord there is no drought. He fills the fountains and mends the deepest pipes.Their splashings spring up and never run dry. The Lord builds shelter in the heart of the garden to guard from the brightest suns. He constructs seats of rest for his workers. In the garden of the Lord the trees fling their branches higher for the Lord strips Winter’s death from their branches. When I walk through His city I call our for the gardener and He answers me, “Look! Here I am!” Of the city of God there will be no end.
